The Apprentice: Commodities

On a recent TV episode of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice at the New York Mercantile Exchange (the world’s largest commodity exchange), The Don pointed out that we are all commodities. Trump began by saying “I am a commodity” and then boldly told Lennox Lewis, a three time heavy weight championship boxer, “You are a commodity”. Don also addressed Gene Simmons of Kiss fame and Marilu Henner from the old Taxi show. There were two Olympian gold medalists, a super model and a playboy playmate of the year and Trace Adkins, a platinum award winning Grand Ole Opry member. Everyone is for sale was the summary of Donald’s business philosophy. All that you are - your celebrity, your words and your deeds are on the selling block. All things have a value and a price. I agree.
In a commercial based society it is hard to see it in any other light. In truth, we are bought and sold. We trade the “time shares” of our lives. We clock them by the hours and we sell them on the job block to “Buyers” such as a boss or corporation. Yet we are a free society. We choose our masters and by whom we are bought. We choose the price at which life is sold and set its value.  We choose for what purpose our lives are given.
The Disciple: Paid in full
The highest price that can ever be paid, the fortune with which all mankind was purchased is not gold but God. His celestial celebrity made the exchange. His spoken word and deed upon the cross so overwhelmingly paid for me that my life is now too precious for me to sell to any one else. His blood poured over me. I am bought and paid for in full by the one true living God Almighty. I am now of God’s kingdom and represent Jesus upon the Earth.
As an ambassador for His kingdom I can trade segments of my life. The means of exchange are my influence, my efforts and my vote. At home, on the job or at temple the influence of Jesus upon my life will influence others. What ever task I put my hands to; my efforts are bolstered by His strength. With true regard for the affairs of state, I cast my vote prayerfully - not financially.
The object of Trump’s Apprentice is for money to be donated to the charity of their choice. This is a good and noble deed. The good and noble purpose of Jesus’ Disciple is to spread the good news throughout the world.  The bill is paid in full.
