Amos
was an ordinary yet Godly man. He was a mere herdsman who also tended the fig
trees in the Judean countryside. This common man was not the son of a prophet or
the son of a priest. He was a humble herdsman, working hard, providing for his
family and worshipped God.
God
gave Amos a vision and told him to take the message to the Northern Kingdom of
Israel.
At
this time Israel was enjoying economic
prosperity and peace. However, this opened the door for the people of the
Northern Kingdom to become selfish,
materialistic and ignore the needs of those less fortunate.
The
people were self-centered and became indifferent to God. The Lord gave Amos a
message and a warning to deliver. God would come against the people for their
transgressions.
In
reading the book of Amos, I was reminded that first of all God used a lay
person—an ordinary but obedient man who used his voice.
All believers are instructed to be a living witness, a
shinning light, an example and to go into all the world with the good news.
These are to address unbelievers.
We are also told to use our voice to edify the body,
encourage, build up each other and be as iron sharpening iron.
Whatever the Lord lays on your heart to do and
whatever callings and talents He has given you, the key is to “DO”, be active,
use what He has given you when He tells you.
As the time grows closer to His return we are to be
busy … and busier... about the work of the Father. There is no time to waste and
the world needs to know Him.
The
world...it’s in sad shape; and it’s only getting worse. No, I’m not trying to
sound pessimistic—the Written Word says it will continue to get that way. It
also says that “these things must happen”.
But in the meantime we are to bring souls into the
Kingdom and build up the body of Christ.
How do we do that? Get
activated!
This is what Todd has been motivating us to do as God
leads him. This is what John and I are doing in our class. (Encouraging you to
step out in your role now and for the days ahead) This is what the Word
instructs.
Just like Amos, you don’t have to be the son or
daughter of a priest or prophet. You
are a KING’S KID!
So
let’s look at what lies ahead because the
church has
a vital role; you
personally
have a vital role.
Believers
will be raptured. We don’t know when, we may not be around to see who wins this
year’s election. We may be here 3 1/2 years from now still saying ‘soon’…
But it will happen.
Until
then, the world will continue on its path making you believe it is good and
right and that its course is better. But that is not so. (Proverbs
14:12)
We
have been very blessed as a nation but we are fast loosing those blessing
because THE
CHURCH has
been silent. THE
CHURCH and
its leaders have failed miserably to do its
job!
It
was mealy-mouthed when Roe v. Wade came about. It was mealy-mouthed when prayer
was taken out of schools. It has been mealy-mouthed when we began allowing
government to dictate what our children were to be taught (like evolution, homosexuality and ‘safe sex
demonstrations’). The list goes on still today as new laws are added, such as
speaking against homosexuality—now doing so is labeled hate crime,
etc.
Have
you ever heard the expression “If
you don’t use it you lose it”?
This applies to our physical muscles, our rights, our political voice — and our
Godly covering.
What
about our National Sovereignty as ONE
NATION UNDER GOD?
What? You don’t think that could or has begun happening? Look again.
God
blessed this nation tremendously with forefathers who knew the value of
sovereignty and being a
nation under God.
They bestowed on us a U.S. Constitution that provided for
it.
Yet
today, perhaps behind closed government doors, God and our sovereignty are being
taken and given away. Let me give you an example of what one well-known
columnist points out...
Joseph Farah,
publisher and editor of World
Net Daily wrote
an article recently about the U.N. accepting India into the
organization. The first sentence in the article
said:
“British
Prime Minister Gordon Brown offered an impassioned plea last week for a new
world order.
‘To succeed now, the post-war rules of the game and the post-war international
institutions must be radically reformed to fit our
world of globalization’.
”
Farah
goes on to say he would like to see the U.S. give its seat to India and stop
playing the U.N. game. He states that ‘The
U.S. was founded as an independent,
sovereign nation.
We fought a war to ensure, at our nation’s birth, that we would be free of the
entanglements and wars and intrigues of the Old
World.
Yet
two-hundred years later, it’s leading the world back into all those traps and
offering up our own children to police the global chaos that inevitably ensues.
America has no business in the United Nation.’
Nowhere in
the Constitution do I see any provision for our federal government’s
participation in an organization of nations that has dreams of governing the
world.’
Mr.
Farah then makes a plea to go on about our business as a sovereign nation. To
let American people, and them alone, chart their own destiny, protect their own
interest, and take care of their own security
needs.
He
also adds, ‘World government is profoundly un-American. And worse
yet, the global conspirators are planning to hand over control of our lives and
livelihoods to world wide authorities who would like nothing better than to see
America knocked down a notch or two, all in the name of leveling the playing
field.’
The
world, and the U.N. are filled with Godless, people. Do we, as the church, want
to be as guilty as those of the past who do not want to stand up and speak out
to power-hungry secular progressive humanists or do we want to retain our
God-given blessings as a sovereign nation?
Like
Amos, we are ordinary people but we can exercise in obedience the callings and
voices God has given us. Whether it concerns the iniquities of pornography,
abortion, and homosexuality or our inalienable rights - if we do not use our
voices, mobilize with unity and issue a clarion call, we will lose the
sovereignty and blessings that we have been so graciously given by our Creator
as One Nation Under God.
