Genuine Faith – In Your Heart
In Your Talk And In Your Walk
4/3/05
Faith is conceived in your heart, heard in
your talk, and seen in your walk!
Rom. 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your
mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we
are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is
Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Faith is not determined by what you see or
what you feel or what you are told!
Lk. 8:41 Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at
Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his
only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. 49 While Jesus was
still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your
daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher any more.” 50
Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and
she will be healed.” 51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he
did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s
father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and
mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.” 53
They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her
by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned,
and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56
Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had
happened.
Only two of the twelve men who were sent to
spy out the land of Canaan held on to what they believed instead of what they saw!
Caleb and Joshua!
Num. 13:26 They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite
community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to
the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 They
gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it
does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. 28 But the people
who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We
even saw descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites live in the
Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the
Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” 30 Then Caleb
silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession
of the land, for we can certainly do it.” 31 But the men who had
gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we
are.” 32 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the
land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living
in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there
(the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). 33 We seemed like
grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
Jesus is not limited to our logical or
reasonable thinking!
Lk. 5:1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the
people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2 he
saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were
washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one
belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat
down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished
speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for
a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and
haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets
began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat
to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they
began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees
and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and
all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10
and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Faith is not based on what you see but on
what you don’t see.
Heb. 11:1 (KJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
of things not seen.
1 Pet. 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and
even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an
inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of
your faith, the salvation of your souls.
2 Cor. 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Jo. 20:24 Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the
disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We
have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his
hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I
will not believe it.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the
house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came
and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said
to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it
into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My
Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me,
you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have
believed.” 30 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the
presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Faith is conceived in your heart, heard in
your talk, and seen in your walk!
2 Cor. 4:13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that
same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak,
Genuine faith cannot be silenced!
Do you speak what God can do or what you think He can’t do?
Or you positive with you words or negative?
Num. 11:1 Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of
the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused.
Mk. 9:17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is
possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it
seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his
teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but
they could not.” 19 “O unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how
long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to
me.” 20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it
immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled
around, foaming at the mouth. 21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How
long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It
has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” 23
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything
is possible for him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father
exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
1 Tim. 6:11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you
were called when you made your good confession in the presence of
many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to
everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius
Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep
this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus
Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own time—God, the
blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who
alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen
or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
Remember what the 10 spies said when they
came back from the land of Canaan?
Listen to this confession of faith!
Dt. 9:1 Hear, O Israel. You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and
dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have
walls up to the sky. 2 The people are strong and tall—Anakites! You
know about them and have heard it said: “Who can stand up against the
Anakites?” 3 But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one
who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he
will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them
quickly, as the LORD has promised you.
Faith is conceived in your heart, heard in
your talk, and seen in your walk!
Ja. 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has
no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is
without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, “Go, I
wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical
needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself,
if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone
will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and
I will show you my faith by what I do. 19 You believe that there is
one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. 20 You
foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21
Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he
offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and
his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he
did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed
God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s
friend. 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and
not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the
prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the
spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body
without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
Make sure that faith is conceived in your
heart and not just some religion in your head.
Guard your words, speak faith and not
unbelief. Speak positive and not negative. Speak thanksgiving, praise and
gratefulness instead of murmuring, complaining and dissatisfaction.
Walk out your faith. Faith without action is
dead.
