Truth Is Not Discovered – Truth Is Revealed!
1/30/05
The world through it's so called wisdom and
intelligence will never find God!
You don't discover God. You don't discover
truth. Truth is revealed!
1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19
For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of
the intelligent I will frustrate.” 20 Where is the wise man? Where
is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish
the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world
through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of
what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand
miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ
crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24
but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God
and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than
man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
On two difference occasions Jesus rejoiced in
the fact that revelation was something revealed to the humble and kept from the
proud.
Mat. 11:20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his
miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to
you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you
had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in
sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for
Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you,
Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the
depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom,
it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will
be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” 25
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and
revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this
was your good pleasure.
Lk. 10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons
submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like
lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on
snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will
harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you,
but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” 21 At that time
Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord
of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise
and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for
this was your good pleasure. 22 “All things have been committed to
me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one
knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to
reveal him.”
This is extremely important! God gives us a
“divine window” of opportunity. It is true--as long as we are alive we have the
opportunity of being saved--but we don’t always have the revelation!
Lk. 19:41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42
and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you
peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days
will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and
encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to
the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one
stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming
to you.”
Heb. 3:7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, 8
do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of
testing in the desert, 9 where your fathers tested and tried me and
for forty years saw what I did. 10 That is why I was angry with that
generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have
not known my ways.’ 11 So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They
shall never enter my rest.’ “ 12 See to it, brothers, that none of
you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of
you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share
in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. 15
As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not
harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” 16 Who were they
who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17
And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned,
whose bodies fell in the desert? 18 And to whom did God swear that
they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So
we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
Do we recognize
what’s being revealed or do we refuse what’s being revealed?
There is an amazing sequence through
scripture that shows the power of “divine revelation.”
Mat. 16:13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his
disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied,
“Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or
one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you
say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of
the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of
Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in
heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this
rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven.” 20 Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he
was the Christ. 21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to
his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands
of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be
killed and on the third day be raised to life. 22
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This
shall never happen to you!” 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get
behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the
things of God, but the things of men.”
Mat. 17:1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the
brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2
There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his
clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared
before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to
Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three
shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 While he
was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud
said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground,
terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said.
“Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except
Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed
them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has
been raised from the dead.”
Lk. 9:37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd
met him. 38 A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to
look at my son, for he is my only child. 39 A spirit seizes him and
he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the
mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him. 40 I
begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.” 41 “O
unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay
with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” 42 Even while
the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But
Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. 43
And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marveling
at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44 “Listen
carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be
betrayed into the hands of men.” 45 But they did not
understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did
not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
Mat. 17:22 When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of
Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. 23 They will kill
him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the
disciples were filled with grief.
Mat. 20:17 Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve
disciples aside and said to them, 18 “We are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of
the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will turn him over to
the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he
will be raised to life!” 20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s
sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. 21
“What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of
mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” 22
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the
cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. 23 Jesus said to
them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not
for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared
by my Father.”
Now this is what’s ironic--but it was God’s
divine plan!
It was hidden from Jesus’ very own disciples but
His very enemies remembered what He said!
Mat. 27:62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests
and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we
remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I
will rise again.’ 64 So give the order for the tomb to be
made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal
the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last
deception will be worse than the first.”
This happened to fulfill this scripture...
Mat. 13:11 He replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of
heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will
be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what
he has will be taken from him. 13 This is why I speak to them in
parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’
16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears
because they hear.
Since truth must be revealed it’s not a
matter of how clever you are but how contrite you are.
Jo. 9:39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the
blind will see and those who see will become blind.” 40 Some
Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind
too?” 41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of
sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.
