What Is Right And Wrong?

1/7/06

What is right and what is wrong?

You wouldn’t think that this would be so difficult, but it is.

Our society is beyond slipping, it’s sliding rapidly down into a pit called humanism.

The humanistic definition of right and wrong is this:  whatever pleases the individual (self-indulgence) is perfectly right.  Anyone who stands in the way of individual freedom of expression is wrong and evil.

Pr. 14:34  Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

Righteousness is right and sin is wrong!  And only God can define that!

“The American Union will last as long as God pleases. It is the duty of every American Citizen to exert his utmost abilities and endeavors to preserve it as long as possible and to pray with submission to Providence "esto perpetua" [may it last forever].

– John Adams, Aug. 2, 1820

“Our forefathers recognized that the strength and sustainability of this country depended on one thing: the continued presence of the providential hand of God. Over the past 50 years, however, that recognition has been steadily eroded by courts gone out of control, by left-wing interest groups bent on sandblasting all references to God from the public square, and by the indifference of ordinary citizens who do not understand why God matters to the nation.”  Judge Roy Moore

“As the former chief justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama, I lost my position because I chose to follow God and the United States Constitution, our rule of law, instead of a federal judge's unlawful order commanding me to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Alabama state judicial building. But my case was not about a monument and it was not about the Ten Commandments: It was about the acknowledgment of the Judeo-Christian God as the sovereign source of our law, liberty and government. The federal judge in my case, Myron Thompson, said as much in his decision, stating: "[T]he state may not acknowledge the sovereignty of the Judeo-Christian God and attribute to that God our religious freedom.”  Judge Roy Moore

“As President George Washington observed in his First Inaugural Address on April 30, 1789:

No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.

“Our forefathers knew what they were talking about, and I believe that the most important issue facing our country is whether we will choose to acknowledge God and His sovereignty or continue down the path of destruction paved by secular humanism. Nearly every issue and every problem we face in this country can be traced back to what kind of role we believe God plays in our society.”  Judge Roy Moore

Pr. 14:22 (NLT) Those who follow the right path fear the LORD; those who take the wrong path despise him.

If we can’t tell the difference between right and wrong how can we ever begin to acknowledge our sin before a sovereign and omnipotent God!

144 years ago Abraham Lincoln understood this so clearly!  The year is 1863.

The great heart of Abraham Lincoln expressed itself on this subject with saintly and prophetic vision:

“It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that these nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.

"And inasmuch as we know that by His divine law, nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown.  "But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand that preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior virtue and wisdom of our own.

"Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us.

"It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness."

And if that was true in 1863, how much more is it true now? We can sing "God Bless America" until we are blue in the face ... but unless we do what God has indicated, His blessings will be withheld.”

Our unethical values in the United States of America have reached proportions that 50 years ago people would never have dreamed possible!

Have you ever heard of an organization called NAMBLA?

“The ACLU is representing the North American Man-Boy Love Association in a civil lawsuit. That case proves that the ACLU is not only misguided, it is dangerous. Here are some details that prove this point once and for all.  The ACLU believes NAMBLA’s “rights” are being violated. So please consider the starting point of this terrible situation. On October 1, 1997, ten-year-old Jeffrey Curley was playing in the front yard of his Cambridge, Massachusetts, home. A few yards away, two men, Salvatore Sicari and Charles Jaynes, were watching Jeffrey from their parked car. Sicari and Jaynes talked it over—could they kidnap the boy and get away unseen? It was risky in broad daylight, but the men, losers both, decided to try. Leaping out of the car, they grabbed the boy, threw him inside, and sped off. But Jeffrey fought back hard. Finally, the men suffocated the boy with a gasoline-soaked rag and drove to Jaynes’s apartment, where they sexually abused Jeffrey’s body. Afterward, they drove to Maine, where they dumped the young boy’s corpse into a river. It does not get worse than this. Massachusetts detectives did a great job on the case, and both Sicari and Jaynes received life in prison. During court testimony, Jaynes’s diary was introduced. In the diary was a description of the NAMBLA Web site and Jaynes’s writing that it encouraged him to act out his violent fantasies on young boys.  Jaynes accessed the NAMBLA Web site at the Boston Public Library. Remember, the ACLU and S-P movement want no restrictions on library Internet access.

Not surprisingly, Jeffrey Curley’s family was so appalled by the NAMBLA connection that they filed a $200 million federal lawsuit against the group, seeking to put it out of business once and for all. It fell to the Curley family to attempt to do what the U.S. justice system has been unable to do—crush NAMBLA. By the way, it is worth noting that one of the most popular NAMBLA publications is titled “The Survival Manual: The Man’s Guide to Staying Alive in Man-Boy Sexual Relationships.” This revolting “manual” explains how to insinuate yourself into a child’s life and get away with molesting the boy. Sick doesn’t even begin to cover it. After the Curley family filed its suit, it was answered—by the ACLU. The S-P shock troops took the case to “protect” the free-speech rights of NAMBLA. ACLU Massachusetts legal director John Reinstein said in a press release: “Regardless to whether people agree with or abhor NAMBLA’s views, holding the organization responsible for crimes committed by others who read their material would gravely endanger important first amendment freedoms.”

“Once again, a theoretical argument is put forth to defend active evil. As with the war on terror, the S-P vanguard cannot come to grips with the fact that NAMBLA has no place in any civilized society, an organization that appears to be criminal, encouraging child rape, and should be put out of business any legal way possible. But in the “anything goes” world of the secular-progressives, theory is much more important than protecting the kids.”  Bill O’Reilly The Cultural Warrior

Even the church doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong!

Mic. 3:1 (NLT) Listen, you leaders of Israel! You are supposed to know right from wrong, 2but you are the very ones who hate good and love evil. You skin my people alive and tear the flesh off their bones. 3You eat my people’s flesh, cut away their skin, and break their bones. You chop them up like meat for the cooking pot. 4Then you beg the LORD for help in times of trouble! Do you really expect him to listen? After all the evil you have done, he won’t even look at you!

How can the church call itself the church when it ordains homosexuals into the ministry and endorses the murder of innocent little babies!

If you took today’s church and went back in a time capsule to Nazi Germany during the holocaust what would we do?  Would we stand by doing nothing while hundreds of thousands of Jewish people are killed in gas chambers and tortured in so called medical wards?

Does the church care about right and wrong?

Is. 59:19  ….(KJV) When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

What is that standard, who holds that standard?  The church of the Living God!

Eph. 4:17 (NLT) With the Lord’s authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19They don’t care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways. Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed.

Let me show how for we have fallen and the serious state we are in.

Ro. 2:14 (NLT) Even when Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, instinctively follow what the law says, they show that in their hearts they know right from wrong. 15They demonstrate that God’s law is written within them, for their own consciences either accuse them or tell them they are doing what is right. 16The day will surely come when God, by Jesus Christ, will judge everyone’s secret life…

Even without the written law, there is a certain amount of conscience that tells a person instinctively what is right and wrong!

We have fallen so far that the conscience is seared from that awareness!

Burlington, Vermont -- January 4, 2005

There was outrage when a Vermont judge handed out a 60-day jail sentence to a man who raped a little girl many, many times over a four-year span starting when she was seven.

The judge said he no longer believes in punishment and is more concerned about rehabilitation.

Prosecutors argued that confessed child-rapist Mark Hulett, 34, of Williston deserved at least eight years behind bars for repeatedly raping a littler girl countless times starting when she was seven.

But Judge Edward Cashman disagreed explaining that he no longer believes that punishment works.

"The one message I want to get through is that anger doesn't solve anything. It just corrodes your soul," said Judge Edward Cashman speaking to a packed Burlington courtroom.

Judge Cashman explained that he is more concerned that Hulett receive sex offender treatment as rehabilitation. But under Department of Corrections classification, Hulett is considered a low-risk for re-offense so he does not qualify for in-prison treatment. So the judge sentenced him to just 60 days in prison and then Hulett must complete sex treatment when he gets out or face a possible life sentence.

Judge Cashman also revealed that he once handed down stiff sentences when he first got on the bench 25 years ago, but he no longer believes in punishment.

"I discovered it accomplishes nothing of value; it doesn't make anything better; it costs us a lot of money; we create a lot of expectation, and we feed on anger, "Cashman explained to the people in the court.

The sentence outraged the victim's family who asked not to be identified.

"I don't like it," the victim's mother, in tears, told Channel 3. "He should pay for what he did to my baby and stop it here. She's not even home with me and he can be home for all this time, and do what he did in my house," she added.

Hulett -- who had been out on bail-- was taken away to start his sentence immediately.

“Even though the child is devastated for life, the criminal must be “healed” in order for true justice to take place. This is what America will come to if the secular-progressives ever take over—and if you think I’m exaggerating, you’re wrong. The states of Minnesota and Vermont have been heavily influenced by secular-progressive thought. It is no accident that those two states are the only ones in the Union that officially sanction the philosophy of “restorative justice.”  Bill O’Reilly The Cultural Warrior

The secular-progressives hate Christianity because it attacks the very core of their humanistic thinking.  Any opportunity they have to insult Jesus Christ and the Christian faith they take it….

“Remember in February 2006, when a Danish newspaper published some political cartoons mocking the prophet Muhammad. The intent of the cartoons was to show the Islamic world that killing innocent people in the name of religion is insane.  The New York Times refused to print the cartoons, but then, in a sidebar article explaining the power of visual images, the Times printed a picture of Mary, the mother of Jesus, covered with dung. That picture was taken at a disgraceful “art” exhibit in the Brooklyn Museum in 1999, which occasioned well-deserved controversy and outrage. So wasn’t printing that image insulting to Christians? The paper declined to insult Islam but was more than willing to show an image that might offend Christians.”  Bill O’Reilly The Cultural Warrior

The ACLU is one of the biggest leaders in the secular-progressive thinking…

“All over the country, the ACLU has sued the Boy Scouts, seeking to have them denied public assistance and access, such as having a jamboree on city property. It is a jihad against the Scouts, no question. Once again doing the math, I have come up with this equation: NAMBLA gets ACLU support. The Boy Scouts get ACLU attacks.”  Bill O’Reilly The Cultural Warrior

You remove God, the Living God, Jesus Christ the Savior of the world, and you have nothing!

You remove the Word of God and you have no definition of what is right or wrong.

2 Tim. 3:16 (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. 17It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.

Is. 5:18 (NLT) Destruction is certain for those who drag their sins behind them, tied with cords of falsehood. 19 They even mock the Holy One of Israel and say, “Hurry up and do something! Quick, show us what you can do. We want to see what you have planned.”

20 Destruction is certain for those who say that evil is good and good is evil; that dark is light and light is dark; that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.

21 Destruction is certain for those who think they are wise and consider themselves to be clever.

22 Destruction is certain for those who are heroes when it comes to drinking, who boast about all the liquor they can hold. 23 They take bribes to pervert justice. They let the wicked go free while punishing the innocent.

“The world is, and always has been, a struggle between good and evil. The Bible and the stark reality of the world teach us that. But as we all know, the Bible is not on the secular-progressive recommended reading list.”  Bill O’Reilly The Culture Warrior

“The restorative justice concept is picking up steam in the S-P ranks—the “disease” excuse is featured prominently in S-P criminal philosophy.”  Bill O’Reilly The Cultural Warrior

If you don’t acknowledge sin then this becomes the logical conclusion…

Ÿ        Homosexuality--born that way

Ÿ        Any sexual perversion is either a disease or you are born that way

Ÿ        Alcoholism--disease

Ÿ        Stealing--you are born that way, it’s a disease

Ÿ        Pyromania--you are born that way, it’s a disease

Ÿ        Lying--you are born that way, it’s a disease

Ÿ        Cheating--you are born that way, it’s a disease

You get the picture!

Why is there such blindness in our society?  I believe the answer is found in this verse…

2 Thess. 2:7 (NASB) For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

Pr. 29:18 (KJV) Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

The word “vision” means revelation.

(NASB) Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law.

(NLT) When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is happy.

Jesus is on the throne!  He is Lord!  He is Supreme and that will never change!

His righteousness rules forever.  He is still in control when everything else is out of control!

Is. 51:4 (NLT) “Listen to me, my people. Hear me, Israel, for my law will be proclaimed, and my justice will become a light to the nations. 5My mercy and justice are coming soon. Your salvation is on the way. I will rule the nations. They will wait for me and long for my power. 6Look up to the skies above, and gaze down on the earth beneath. For the skies will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing. The people of the earth will die like flies, but my salvation lasts forever. My righteous rule will never end!

7 “Listen to me, you who know right from wrong and cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid of people’s scorn or their slanderous talk. 8For the moth will destroy them as it destroys clothing. The worm will eat away at them as it eats wool. But my righteousness will last forever. My salvation will continue from generation to generation.”
